About Us

Mahila Rajsatta Andolan (MRA) - A Campaign for Women in Governance was initiated in the year 2000 as a movement with a view of empowering Elected women members of the Gram Panchayat and other motivated members and development groups to strengthen the their participation & governance role in political processes through Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). MRA works in this direction in state of Maharashtra. It was initiated by Resource & Support Center for Development (RSCD), Mumbai in collaboration with its regional networks in Maharashtra with specific strategies & campaigns. It has been working at both policy & program level with a firm stand of women's active participation in the process of village development. MRA has been able to make an impact at the State level decision-making through its field and policy advocacy initiatives through different intervention strategies like - Advocacy, Organizing Training, Programs, Crisis Support, Documentation, and Dissemination of Information for Elected Women Representatives (EWRs).

We are making elected women representatives conversant with the Panchayat laws, procedures, their rights, powers & functioning of the administrative mechanism.

The magnitude of the problem like lack of people's governance is a multi political matrix. Only specific campaign with clearly defined focus, can create the sense of urgency, mobilize popular support, & marshal all possible resources to sustain mass action, continuity & follow-up of such issues.'

Governance refers to formal and informal participation in decision-making and power to make, implement and control the decisions. It has the capacity of bringing about fundamental changes in the society. However it is possible only if effective representation of all different segments of the society is ensured.

Mahila Rajsatta Andolan started with a Vision of a society in which Women will equally participate in the all types of institutions, will become partners of the developmental processes, and thus will create an egalitarian, interdependent, and human society.
