About Us
MRA believes in building the political consciousness of women and has not restricted itself merely to working with women in politics. MRA asserts that social and political empowerment go hand-in-hand. The problems faced by elected women cannot be viewed in isolation, as women's issues are interlinked and reinforcing. Therefore, there is a need to address women's subordination and its structural causes. The gender discrimination in all sources of power is quit apparent. Men, particularly affluent and upper caste men, hold seats of power and authority.
Two slogans popularized at the Saigata convention express the essence of MRA's philosophy. The first one was: "VOTE HAMARA, RAJ HAMARA, LEKE RAHENGE, LEKE RAHENGE" Which means the vote is ours, the power is ours and we will continue the struggle to get it.
The other slogan is: "GAVAT LOKSHAHI GHARAT HUKUMSHAHI, CHALNAR NAHI, CHALNAR NAHI" which Asserted that women want to have democracy within their villages as well as homes, and addressed the public and private divide and secondary status women face within their families.
Today it has a broad base in rural areas of Maharashtra. MRA is encouraging women to come forward and demand their rightful share in Political Governance. We aim to create awareness about the success and struggles of these women leaders. It has played an effective role in network building, capacity building, and creating support systems to ensure Women's active, efficient, and effective participation in governance of PRI.
Today MRA is working in 25 districts, 75 blocks, 5 regional networks, with 62 organizations, 40 grass-root women leaders, and 2000 EWRs (Elected Women Representatives)
